The town of Fiesole, sits on a hilltop, just a few km outside Florence and, with its historic heritage and stunning scenery, is an ideal one-day excursion for those who are looking for things to do around Florence.

Fiesole has a long and prestigious history as an Etruscan and then Roman town in the classical age and as an independent city-state in fierce rivalry with Florence, during the Middle Ages, until it was subdued by the Florentines in 1125.

Among the main sights, the Romanesque cathedral and home of the Bishop of Fiesole, the Roman amphitheatre, the monastery of St. Francis a very interesting archaeological museum , a Medici villa and many other fantastic villas
